    Welcome to the home of the *original* Hot & Spicy Cheese Bread. Our family has been serving up this infamous Wisconsin icon for over 25 years — since the day our mother invented the recipe, after a baking disaster ended our batch of empanadas destined for the market that day.

    That happy accident was the birth of the mighty Hot & Spicy Cheese Bread — the perfect buttery blend of red pepper, chives, provolone and monterey jack cheeses, and our secret sweet dough that melts in your mouth.

    Ask anyone who knows, Stella's Hot & Spicy Cheese Bread is a Farmers' Market Must-Have. "Tear It & Share It!" is our best advice — it's the perfect fuel for circling Madison's Capitol Square with a group of friends on a perfect market day.  

    Stella's booth has long been a bustling corner of fun, family and Wisco-pride. That was established the moment our dad, Max, arrived at the Market. It was his favorite place to meet our customers, and he showed it. Boisterous and endearing, the man knew how to break the ice. Watch out for flying Cheese Breads! 

  • The Home That Cheese Bread Built

    It all started with Stella, our great grandmother, who couldn't bake a lick. She taught the next generations how to nourish a soul with food and keep a family strong.

    About 80 years later, and from one isthmus to another, my parents, Max & Coralia, arrived in Wisconsin and sold vegetables from their farm just outside Madison. My brother, my sisters, we all helped out on the farm and it was grueling work! We all cherish the day my mother tried her hand at baking - it was the day we could put down our shovels! It's been many years, and after we all ventured off on different paths, the bakery has brought us together again to carry on Stella's good work.
